Shalik Billah :
Tawhidul Islam is a distinguished writer, journalist, and organizer from Sylhet. Born in 1988 in a respected Muslim family in Jhingabari Mirmati village, Kanaighat Upazila, his father is Engineer Akhtaruzzaman and his mother is Zaheda Begum. He completed his SSC in 2004, HSC in 2006, and graduated in 2011.
Alongside his studies, Tawhidul has been involved in writing and journalism since 2004. He has worked with various print newspapers including Daily Sylhet Protidin, Daily Sylhet Bani, Daily Jalalabad, and Daily Alokito Sylhet. In 2010, he launched a weekly newspaper, Apurbo Sylhet, which was quite popular at the time. Currently, he is the editor of the online news portal NewsChamber24.com, which has been registered with the Ministry of Information since 2015.
Tawhidul serves as the Treasurer of the Sylhet Online Press Club and has previously held the position of IT Secretary at the traditional Kanaighat Press Club. Throughout his career, he has faced numerous threats, including an incident in 2011 where his newspaper was set on fire due to a controversial report. Despite these challenges, he has continued his journalistic endeavors with courage and integrity.
In 2016, Tawhidul ran for the position of Chairman of the Jhingabari Union Parishad and in 2024, he prepared to run for Vice Chairman of the Kanaighat Upazila Parishad but withdrew due to concerns about the election’s fairness.
He has authored and published two books: “Kanaighat Index and Alokito Kanaighat” in 2011 and “Neglect in the Mother Tongue” in 2016. Since 2014, he has also been running a printing business named Apurbo Media.
Tawhidul is actively involved in various social activities. He is a lifetime member of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Sylhet Unit, a member of the Safe Roads Sylhet District Committee, and has held positions in several other organizations. He is also a member of the Jhingabari Community Clinic and the Mirmati Jame Mosque Management Committee.
In his personal life, Tawhidul is married to the daughter of Mohammad Ahmad from Shibnagar village, Kanaighat Municipality, since 2018. They have two daughters.
